Every June, some Cantiamo choristers reach that age when they ‘graduate’ from the choir and gain alumni-status. This poem was written by a current chorister as a tribute to the girls moving on:
I went into the choir when I was still very young.
I was looking for somewhere that I could have fun.
I met a few friends to start off my year.
But no one compared to the girls I’ve met here.
At our very first concert, I received quite a thrill.
When I laid my eyes on the girls who mentor me still.
They started to sing and touch my heart and my soul.
Becoming a part of that choir became my ultimate goal.
And now here they stand, saying their last goodbye.
And watching these girls, more than once made me cry.
But even when I am sad I will always ALWAYS know.
That those very same girls’ voices in my heart will echo.
So even as you leave, understand these few words.
No matter where you are, no matter what you’ve heard.
You will have a place here no matter how old you grow.
And we will always love you. I hope that’s something you know.
