In early October, after just a few practices together, the Cantiamo Girls Choir of Ottawa got together for their first event of the 2015-16 season. The overnight retreat at the Bonnenfant Y Camp in Dunrobin, Ontario, was a great opportunity for the choristers – both new and returning – to get to know one another better. Under the direction of Artistic Director, Jackie Hawley, the choristers received valuable vocal training and quickly added to their repertoire. The weekend was not all work; teambuilding activities, games and laughter also featured prominently. The choristers particular enjoyed the swing dance lessons taught by a Cantiamo Alumni, Megan Batty.
Cantiamo has a busy year ahead, with many performances and outreach activities planned. So it was nice to get a jump on their singing, while making new friends and cementing existing friendships.
This was the second Y camp retreat in as many seasons, and the choristers are already hoping that this event truly becomes an annual event!
