Each winter, in the midst of February’s snow and ice, a group of educators gather for a choral training workshop and leave with an inspirational and practical musical toolkit. Cantiamo’s Founding Artistic Director, Jackie Hawley, leads the workshop and is assisted by the talented young women in the Cantiamo Girls Choir. Here’s how Grade 6 Elgin Street Public School teacher Cara Lipsett sums up her experience attending these vocal workshops.
“I have had the pleasure of attending Cantiamo Choral workshops for many years now. Having a chance to work with a teacher such as Jackie is incredibly inspiring. Jackie works tirelessly to keep music happening and she reaches teachers of all levels in her annual February choral workshop. From fun warm-ups, simple yet engaging activities, to more complex pieces, there is something to meet a variety of skill levels.Hearing the girls sing is one of the best parts.
