Kathy Goodsell is an educator with over 25 years of teaching experience, and is a passionate advocate for the importance of music in the lives of children. She has taught in the classroom, directed children’s choirs and musical theatre, and organized arts celebrations that involved all students and staff at her school. Her school choirs have performed with Rag and Bone Puppet Theatre and participated in Choralfest and Music Monday at the NAC and Ottawa City Hall. In 2015, Kathy received the Arts Recognition Award for Elementary Music from the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (from which she retired in 2017).
Most recently, Kathy and her Adrienne Clarkson ES choir students collaborated with the Gryphon Trio, Ottawa Chamber Music Society, and Cantiamo Choirs of Ottawa on the year-long Listen Up! Project. This exciting exploration of the arts engaged children in the creation of spoken and written poetry, visual art, dance, and music, culminating in a wonderful evening showcase hosted by the Gryphon Trio that highlighted the children’s work and performances.
Kathy also enjoys singing and performing, and is a member of Hypatia’s Voice Women’s Choir and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Choir, as well as serving on the Executive Boards of each. She continues to volunteer with the children’s choir at Adrienne Clarkson Elementary School.
Kathy holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Music degree, a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education. She has attended choral technique workshops presented by Jackie Hawley and by the Voice Care Network at St. Paul’s University in Minnesota, USA.
Kathy is excited to join the Cantiamo Choirs of Ottawa where she will continue to teach and advocate for the importance of music education in the lives of children in a supportive and nurturing learning environment.
